About the Artist

I am a Belfast-based painter working primarily in oil paint. My practice explores the relationship between memory, emotion, and place, using painting as a means of translating lived experience into something felt rather than observed.

Working from remembered images, personal encounters, and moments of emotional significance, I am interested in how experiences change over time through recollection. Rather than seeking to reproduce a scene faithfully, I allow images to shift, dissolve, and reform through the physical process of painting. Figures, landscapes and objects often become fragmented or distorted as they are reinterpreted through gesture, colour and layered surfaces.

The material qualities of oil paint play a central role in my work. Thick applications of paint, visible brushstrokes, and heightened colour are used to build an emotional language that prioritises atmosphere and sensation over description. I am drawn to the tension between representation and abstraction, where recognisable forms emerge and disappear within expressive passages of paint.

After studying Foundation Art at Ulster University and completing a BA in Fine Art at The University of Reading, I continued to develop an independent painting practice. More recently, working within a shared studio environment in Belfast has allowed me to engage with painting in a more sustained and experimental way, deepening my interest in the transformative potential of memory and the expressive possibilities of paint.

Through painting, I seek to create spaces where personal experiences become fluid and open-ended, inviting viewers to navigate their own associations between memory, place and feeling.
